Why You Should
Exchange Links
Why You Should Exchange Links;
5 Top Tips

1. Search engines see links that are directed to your website as a vote of confidence; the more links directed to your site, the higher standing you gain from those same said search engines. And remember the higher the standing, the higher the ranking.

2. Don't exchange links with everyone who comes asking; some sites may not be suitable for the type of site you have. Common sense should tell you who is best to link up with. Never link up with any website that is in direct competition with you. There is no point in directing your potential customers to one of your competitors.

3. If you can, try and link with other websites that complement yours. For example, if you produce cheese then it would be a good idea to link with wine companies or companies that sell your product.

4. Broken links can cause problems for your search engine ranking. Check that the links you have on your site are working properly and always ensure that the links that are directed to your site are also working. If you do find that there's a link to your site on someone else's site that is broken, contact them and politely ask them to fix it. If they don't, remove their link from your site and tell them that this has been done.

5. You might be asked to have a three way link exchange. This is where a person links you on a website but asks you to link to a third website. There is nothing wrong with this. Some people have more than one website and directing links this way will actually show up as single links, and single links are always better then exchanging links. If you have two website then this may be a good idea for you to consider.

And finally...a word of caution. Some less trustworthy people may say that they are willing to exchange links with you, you exchange links and all is well. However, after a few days you find out that your link is no longer on their site and they didn't tell you that they were removing it. There is nothing you can do about this, so just remove their link from your site. This is why it is always good practice to check your links.

If you can't update your site by yourself and feel the cost of operating a link exchange program on your site is far too expensive, contact Gettaweb as we can always help. You can reach us on 01555 820059.
